Who are we?

Billingshurst Emergency Assistance Team (BEAT) are a group of volunteer Community Responders who are trained and monitored by South East Coast Ambulance Service. We provide a quick response to life threatening 999 calls and are able to provide vital first aid treatment prior to the arrival of an ambulance. In an area where the average waiting time for a paramedic ambulance is 12 minutes a local responder can be on scene within a few, with equipment which can mean the difference between life and death.

Billingshurst Emergency Assistance Team members are qualified in the use of defibrillators as well as oxygen administration. Their training is given by South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Trust and are reclassified annually as well as undertaking periodic training to keep our skills up to date and relevant.
